Abstract

Workforce diversity means similarities and differences among employees in
terms of age, cultural background, educational background, physical abilities, and disabilities, race, religion, gender and sexual orientation. No two humans are alike, people are different in not only gender, culture, race social and psychological characterizes but also in their perspectives and prejudices. This paper therefore examines the impact of workforce diversity on organizational development: a study of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba. The empowerment theory of leadership as put forward by Rajotte (1996) was used as theoretical foundation for the study. The main objective of the study is to find out the benefits of workforce diversity on organizational development. Qualitative analysis was adopted with secondary data as the major source of data collection. It was revealed that a diverse workforce if well managed is a tool for organizational development. It is recommended that organizations should\ make employee diversity a priority concern during staff recruitment.
