Awareness of Maternal Nutrition during Pregnancy among Women of Childbearing Age Attending Health Facilities in Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ebonyi State

This study evaluated the level of awareness of maternal nutrition during pregnancy among Women of Childbearing Age attending health facilities in Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. The study had five research objectives and five corresponding research questions. The study adopted the study cross sectional survey research design. The data for the study was collected through a structured questionnaire. Data analysis was done using frequency and percentage. Results showed that, women of childbearing age had a very high awareness l (85.9%) of good nutrition during pregnancy; Younger women are more aware of good nutrition during pregnancy than older women; Women who have attained secondary and tertiary level of education are more aware of maternal nutrition during pregnancy; urban women are more aware of good nutrition during pregnancy than rural women; and Christian women are more aware of good nutrition during pregnancy than Muslim women. The authors concluded that the level of awareness of maternal nutrition during pregnancy among women of childbearing age attending Health Facilities in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is good but more awareness creation on good nutrition should be increased especially amongst women of older age, less educated and Moslems.
