Abstract

In recent times, critical opinions have been expressed concerning the use of computers by secondary school students. This study examined the essence of computer science education in Nigerian secondary schools. The world is now in the computer age, hence there is need to keep abreast of time through promotion of the introduced computer science education especially, in Nigerian secondary schools. Technology has struggled to find its way into the classroom in all sorts of ways, from projectors and televisions to computer laboratory and students’ laptop. Along with improving the way students are taught in the classroom, it is also vital that students learn to use computers to improve their own work and prepare for careers in a world where computers have become as common as the pencil. In this paper, importance of computer science education and the need for computer science education in secondary schools were discussed, ways of promoting computer science education in secondary schools were also articulated and recommendations made.
